Murder Trial of Third Co-Defendant Maurice Crosby Postponed

Baltimore, MD – June 10, 2008 – At a hearing today, and Erica Ammenhauser, 21, of the 200 block of Durham Street pled guilty to conspiracy to commit first-degree assault.  Under terms of the plea agreement, announced in open court, she is required to testify truthfully in the murder trial of Maurice Crosby.  Kinlaw “Baby Boy” Jones, 19, of the 1900 block of East Baltimore Street, also pled guilty today to second-degree assault and wear/carry/transport a dangerous weapon-knife.  Judge Gale E. Rasin sentenced Jones to five-years in prison suspending all but time served.  Jones has been in custody since October 2007.

On June 9, 2007 at approximately 5PM outside Ann’s Grocery Store located at 140 South Ann Street Jones got into an argument with a victim. This argument became physical and Jones displayed a knife. This altercation led to a series of events that led to Ammanhauser going to the unit block of South Chapel Street at 1AM June 10, 2007 with the intent to continue the above altercation with the same victim.

The Baltimore City Grand Jury indicted Maurice Crosby, 19, of the 5200 block of Ready Avenue July 16, 2007 for first-degree murder and deadly weapons counts.  His trial is currently scheduled for September 17, 2008.

Court documents allege that Crosby is responsible for a fatal stabbing on June 10, 2007 in the unit block of South Chapel Street.  Michael Simms, 19, was involved in an altercation with Crosby when he was stabbed.  He died later at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Assistant State’s Attorney Lisa Phelps will prosecute this case.
