DANNTA HOLMES SENTENCED TO 6 YEARS FOR VIOLATING PROBATION

COLLABORATIVE EFFORT IN NORTHWEST DISTRICT IDENTIFIES PROBATION VIOLATORS FOR PROSECUTION

Baltimore, MD – July 1, 2008 – At a hearing today, Judge Timothy Doory found Dannta Holmes 29, of 1200 block of Shields Street, guilty of violating his probation following a 2005 possession with intent to distribute conviction and sentenced him to six-years in prison.  On August 16, 2005 Dannta Holmes, was found guilty of CDS possession, and was sentenced to a 9-year prison term, suspend all with 3-years supervised probation.

Today’s conviction was the result of  a team effort by local, state and federal law enforcement partners working together in Baltimore’s high-crime neighborhoods to reduce violence; including the Western and Northwest police districts.  Today’s partners include:  the Baltimore Police Department, the Maryland Division or Parole & Probation, the Mayor’s Office and the Baltimore State’s Attorney’s Office.  Assistant State’s Attorney Nancy Olin of the State’s Attorney’s Collateral Division prosecuted the case.

Holmes’ violation of probation was triggered after he failed to obey all of the conditions of  supervision and was re-arrested on a trespassing charge.

Today’s hearing highlights the continued emphasis on the identification and prosecution of repeat offenders in Baltimore on supervised parole or probation who commit new offenses or technical violations.
