6.9.11: Officer Convicted of Voluntary Manslaughter for Shooting Outside Nightclub
June 9, 2011 -- Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Edward R.K. Hargadon convicted Gahiji A. Tshamba today of voluntary manslaughter and use of handgun in the commision of a crime of violence for shooting and killing a man during a dispute outside of a nightclub.
On June 5, 2010, Tshamba, an off-duty police officer, and Tyrone Brown got into a verbal dispute in an alley between N. Charles Street and Maryland Avenue. Tshamba ultimately shot Brown 12 times. Brown died of his injuries.
Tshama is scheduled to be sentenced in August 2011.
Assistant State's Attorney Kevin Wiggins prosecuted the case.
