| Housing Code Enforcement/Nuisance Abatement |
|
| |
The Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office (BCSAO) Housing Court Unit was established in 1986 to prosecute housing violations. In 1991, the Maryland General Assembly passed the first statewide Drug Nuisance Statute (Md. Real Property Article § 14-120) allowing civil lawsuits by a Community Association, a State's Attorney or the City Solicitor/County Attorney against landlords or occupants of a property that is used to promote illegal drugs. The first case occurred in Baltimore City.
Within the housing Court Unit is also the Property Based Crime Solutions Program. The program is one-stop-shop for the abatement of nuisance activity in Baltimore City. This program provides the framework within which the community, Baltimore Police Department, Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office, Mayor's Office and Baltimore City Department of Housing and Community Development can all work cooperatively to achieve outcomes beyond the reach of any single agency when addressing nuisance properties. For more information, please contact the Housing Court Unit at (410) 396-4140.
