5.6.11: Williams Sentenced to Life in Prison for Fatally Stabbing Wife

May 6, 2011 -- Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Timothy J. Doory sentenced Cleaven L. Williams Jr. today to life plus three years in prison for fatally stabbing his wife outside of a city courthouse in November 2008.

Williams, 35, admitted that he killed Veronica Williams but argued that his actions were in response to an attack by his wife.

A Baltimore jury convicted Williams on February 25, 2011, of first-degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon.

"With the sentencing completed, we hope that Ms. Williams' family, and especially her children, can begin the process of healing and start new chapters in their lives," State's Attorney Gregg L. Bernstein said.

Assistant State's Attorney Kevin Wiggins prosecuted the case.
