5.27.11: Gaskins Convicted for 2009 Shootings Near Johns Hopkins Hospital

May 27, 2010 -- A Baltimore City Circuit Court jury convicted Timothy Gaskins today of two counts of attempted second-dgree murder and other charges for shooting at a man near Johns Hopkins Hospital and hitting a bystander in the process.

In September 2009, Gaskins exited a black Honda Accord parked in teh 1600 block of East Madison Street, aimed a .38 caliber handgun at James Brockett, and fired five shots. One bullet pierced Brockett's trousers but missed his leg. Another bullet struck Alexia Garcia in the hand as she was walkign to her car after a day at work at the Kennedy Krieger Institute.

When police went to the home of the Honda Accord's registered owner, they observed Gaskins parkign the vehicle in a nearby parking lot and arrested him.

After a six-day trial, the jury convicted Gaskins of two counts of attempted second-degree murder, two counts of first-and second-degree assault, and 16 other counts.

Scheduled for sentencing on July 27, 2011, Gaskins, 43, faces a maximum of 115 years in prison.

Assistant State's Attorney Kelly Madigan prosecuted the case.
