9.9.11: Johnson Sentenced to Consecutive Life Sentences for Double Homicide in Baltimore Highlands

September 9, 2011 -- Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Alfred Nance sentenced Jermaine Johnson today to two consecutive life terms plus 20 years for shooting two men to death in the summer of 2009 in the Baltimore Highlands neighborhood.

At approximately 10:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2009, Johnson and an unknown individual approached a group of people standing in the 200 block of North Conkling Street and started shooting, firing at least 17 shots. They targeted two people in particular, Gerry Martin and Darvin Jones, as they tried to get away. Martin, 18, and Jones, 19, both died from their gunshot wounds.

A jury convicted Johnson, 30, in July 2011 of first-degree murder, two counts of conspiracy first-degree murder, and two gun charges.

Assistant State's Attorney Tonya LaPolla prosecuted the case.
