10.24.11: Sanchez Convicted of First-Degree Murder for 2007 Fatal Shooting
October 24, 2011 -- A Baltimore City Circuit Court jury convicted Lendelle C. Sanchez of first-degree murder on Friday for fatally shooting a man who was walking from an East Baltimore elementary school in the spring of 2007.
Sanchez and another unidentified man approached and shot Thomas Mouzon Jr. on May 7, 2007, as Mouzon and nine others were being escorted from the school in the 1400 block of North Caroline Street back to their halfway house. The victim was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital where he was pronounced dead as result of multiple gunshot wounds.
More than two years after the incident, Sanchez, on June 17, 2009, turned himself in to the Baltimore Police Department and confessed to participating in Mouzon's murder.
In addition to first-degree murder, the jury, after less than two hours of deliberation, also convicted Sanchez of conspiracy to murder and use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence.
Scheduled to be sentenced on December 19, 2011, Sanchez, 27, faces a maximum of two life sentences plus 20 years.
Assistant State's Attorney Robyne Szokoly prosecuted the case.
