For Immediate Release 6/3/2015

Angelo Lewis, 31, has plead guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Robbery after the victim, Ira Bonner, was robbed and subsequently left unconscious.

On September 30, 2013, in the 1500 block of Westwood Avenue, the victim was walking with the mother of his children from a nearby store after purchasing medication,  when he was approached by Lewis.

Lewis then grabbed the victim’s pocket while another person came up behind Bonner and placed him in a chokehold until he became unconscious. The victim’s money and medication were stolen.

Assistant State’s Attorney Richard Gibson tried this case.

“Mr. Lewis is no stranger to the court system,” said Gibson. “He has violated his probation 3 times, has 5 felony drug convictions, and a prior handgun violation.”

Lewis plead guilty to the crime and will spend the next 10 years behind bars.

“It’s appalling to think of how many lives were impacted by this senseless act for a few pills and $56,” said State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. “I'm glad we were able to protect the community from this repeat violent offender and get him off our streets."
