May 20, 2011 -- Baltimore City State's Attorney Gregg L. Bernstein today announced the appointment of veteran Assistant State's Attorney Michelle Martin as the office's new -- and first -- training director.
A graduate of the University of Maryland and the University of Maryland School of Law, Ms. Martin joined the State's Attorney's Offie in 1996 as an Assistant State's Attorney. She was serving as Chief of Operations when she was selected to head the new training initiative.
"Ms. Martin's extensive experience as prosecutor and a trial lawyer. She has the respect of everyone in the Office as well as in the private bar. We are extremely fortunate to have someone with her credentials and reputation heading this program," Mr. Bernstein said.
"One of my most important roles as State's Attorney is to provide assistants with the tools to become skillful prosecutors and advocates in teh courtroom. The establishment of a comprehensive training program that draws upon the talents and wisdom of experienced trial lawyers from both government and the private bar is a major step in this process, and, more importantly, will enable Assistant State's Attorneys to be more effective in prosecuting and convicting criminals. Under Ms. Martin's leadership and direction, we will now begin to develop a training program that will go far to improving the quality of the important work we do every day as prosecutors."
"I share Mr. Bernstein's enthusiasm and commitment to developing and implementing a comprehensive training program that will imporve the effectiveness of all employes in the State's Attorney's Office," Ms. Martin said.
