January 31, 2012 -- A Baltimore City Circuit Court jury convicted Tyrone Webb Jr. yesterday of first-degree murder and two handgun violations for killing his girlfriend, whom he reported missing more than three years ago.

On September 26, 2009, the partially clothed skeletal remains of the victim were found by two hunters in a wooded area 45 yards off of an access road in Baltimore County. Identified through the use of dental records, the victim had two bullet holes in her skull.

Webb reported the victim missing 11 months before the discovery of her body. He told investigators that he had last seen her on the morning of October 28, 2008, when she left for work. Although they did not recover a gun, investigators did determine that Webb was traveling throughout the Baltimore metro area with the victim's cell phone after the period of time he disclosed to them earlier.

The case was initially tried in Baltimore County in April, 2010, where a mistrial resulted from a hung jury. Subsequently, an informant came forward and provided information to Baltimore County prosecutors that the victim had been shot in the apartment she shared with Webb, her boyfriend. As a consequence, Webb filed a motion to transfer venue, which was granted and resulted in his conviction yesterday.

Scheduled for sentencing on April 16, 2012, Webb, now 31, faces a maximum of life plus 20 years in prison.

Assistant State's Attorneys Paul O'Connor and Gavin Patashnick prosecuted the case.
