5.27.11: Jennings Convicted for Murdering Groom-To-Be, Father at Family Party

May 27, 2011 -- A Baltimore City Circuit Court jury convicted Jordan Jennings today of first-degree murder and other charges for fatally shooting a man attending a cookout at the home of his fiancee's mother.

In April 2009, Jennings approached Kenneth Johnson and Darrell Roberson, who were on the front porch of a home in the 5100 block of Hillburn Avenue. With cell phone reception unavailable inside of the house, they had just stepped out of a family party to place calls.

Johnson's fiancess, their four-year-old child, and others were located just inside the open front door when Jennings held up Johnson and Roberson on the porch at gun point. A former U.S. Marine, Johnson tried to disarm the assailant but was shot and killed in the process.

During the 12-day trial, Jennings was linked by his handgun to three additional violent crimes during a span of roughly three weeks in April and May 2009 in the city's northeastern district: a murder, an attempted murder, and a robbery with a deadly weapon.

Scheduled for sentencing on July 15, 2011, Jennings, 20, faces a maximum of life plus more than 100 years in prison. At sentencing, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Yolanda A. Tanner will determine how to proceed with the three additional cases against Jennings.
