10.27.11: Brown Sentenced to 40 Years for Shooting, Paralyzing Neighborhood Acquaintance
October 27, 2011 -- Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Wanda K. Heard sentenced Antwane Brown yesterday to 40 years in prison for attempting to kill a neighborhood acquaintance and paralyzing him in the process.
On Halloween night two years ago, Brown and Craig Pearson passed each other while walking in the 1800 block of Ramblewood Road in the city's northeastern district. Moments later, Brown called out to Pearson, prompting Pearson to turn to face Brown. When he did, he saw that Brown was holding a handgun, and so he attempted to flee. Brown chased and shot Pearson once in the back, paralyzing him.
There is no known motive for the shooting. Brown and Pearson knew each other from the neighborhood, but they had no history of animosity or conflict.
A Baltimore jury convicted Brown, 19, on July 14, 2011, of attempted second-degree murder, two handgun violations, and reckless endangerment.
Assistant State's Attorney Michelle Wilson prosecuted the case.
