1.11.12: Daniels Sentenced for Stabbing Man 52 Times, Killing Him
January 11, 2012 -- Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Sylvester Cox sentenced Willie L. Daniels today to life in prison, with all but 30 years suspended, and five years of probation for fatally stabbing a man outside of a Harford Road bar last summer.
On August 21, 2011, Daniels followed another patron, Alfred Garner, out of the Ibis Tavern, located in the 6000 block of Harford Road. As Garner walked away, Daniels approached him from behind and began to stab him. During the ensuing struggle, Garner was pushed through the storefront glass window of a neighboring business. When the fight returned to the street, the bar's bouncer intervened, drawing a handgun that he was lawfully carrying and ordering Daniels to stop. Daniels did so and fled.
Stabbed a total of 52 times, Garner was transported to the hospital but died of his injuries.
The incident was captured on video; law enforcement was able to locate witnesses who identified Daniels as the attacker; and bloody clothes were recovered from the defendant's residence. Daniels, 33, ultimately pled guilty to first-degree murder.
Assistant State's Attorney Richard Gibson prosecuted the case.
