2.15.11: Hopkins Sentenced To Total of Nearly 10 Years for Second Assault, Probation Violation
February 15, 2011 -- Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Sylvester Cox sentenced George A. Hopkins today to nearly seven years in prison for violating the terms of his probation by committing a second assault one month after pleading guilty to the first.
In November 2010, Hopkins, 43, pled guilty to second-degree assault and was sentenced to seven years in prison with all but one day suspended. One month later, Hopkins stabbed a neighbor. He was convicted of second-degree assault and sentenced to three years in prison.
As a result of his second conviction, the State proceeded with a violation of probation hearing, which concluded yesterday with Judge Cox sentencing Hopkins to the full balance of his 2010 prison term: six year, 11 months, and 29 days. The two prison terms are consecutive for a total of nearly 10 years.
