6.16.11: Taylor Sentenced for Armed Robbery, Attempted Murder

June 16, 2011 -- Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin sentenced Darron Taylor today to 30 years in prison, 12 of them suspended, for attempting to kill a man during an armed robbery.

At 11:20 a.m. on November 3, 2010, Taylor, riding a silver and red mountain bike, approached three men who were talkign in front of a home int eh Winston-Govans neighborhood of the city's northern district. Taylor got off of the bike, put a sawed-off shotgun to the head of one of the men, and ordered him to "kick it out," which is a demand for money and property.

When the man attempted to comply by reaching for his pockets, Taylor started yelling. Fearing for his life, the victime grabbed and fought for the weapon. Taylor ultimately retained possession and fired one shot, hitting his victim in the right hand, right kneww, and both feet. Taylor then fled the scene on foot.

Police located Taylor in a home roughly three blocks from the crime scene. They also recovered the sawed-off shotgun, just 26 inches in length, from a bookbag located in a neighboring yard.

Taylor, 19, pled guilty to attempted second-degree murder, handgun use in a crime of violence, and robbery with a dangerous weapon. He will also serve five years of supervised probation upons release from prison.

Assistant State's Attorney Kelly Madigan prosecuted the case.
