2.10.12: Green Sentenced for Hitting Two Hopkins Students, Leaving Scene of Accident

February 10, 2012 -- Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry G. Williams sentenced Thomas D. Green today for striking two people with his car near the campus of Johns Hopkins University and leaving the scene of the accident.

On May 7, 2011, Green hit the two victims — both of them Hopkins students — as they were crossing 33rd Street at St. Paul Street. He then drove away from the scene of the accident.

Today, he pled guilty to two counts:

1. Failing to immediately stop his vehicle as close as possible to the scene of the accident that resulted in serious bodily injury.

2. Causing a life-threatening injury to victim one as a result of negligent driving while impaired by alcohol.

Green, 37, received a three-year prison sentence, all of it suspended, and three years of supervised probation. He also must undergo alcohol treatment, and his car must be equipped with a device that prevents a driver who has been drinking from operating the vehicle. Guidelines in this case called for a sentence ranging anywhere from probation to two years.
