7.20.11: Hall Sentenced for Carjacking, Murder Attempt

July 20, 2011 -- Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Paul A. Smith sentenced Abram Hall today to 20 years in prison for carjacking a man and then attempting to kill him after unsuccessfully trying to withdraw money from the victim's bank account.

As he exited a carry-out restaurant at the intersection of Belvedere and Park Heights avenues on May 14, 2010, the victim was approached by Hall and two other men at gunpoint and forced into his vehicle. Once inside, the three men assaulted the victim with the butt of a handgun and demanded his wallet, which contained to bank cards.

After trying but failing to withdraw money from an automated teller machine using the victim's cards, Hall and the other assailants dragged the victim to a nearby alley, stripped him of his clothing, beat him to the point of unconsciousness, and shot him in the chest. When he regained consciousness, the victim was able to knock on the door of a nearby home and ask for help.

For his part in the attack, Hall, 20, pled guilty to second-degree attempted murder and armed carjacking. The trial for Hall's co-defendant, Terrell Scott, is scheduled for September 20, 2011.

Assistant State's Attorney Angela Worthy prosecuted the case.
