1.12.12: Gladden Sentenced for Attempted Murder, Robbery in Northwest

January 12, 2012 -- Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Martin P. Welch sentenced Donte Gladden on Monday to 85 years in prison — 30 of those years suspended — and five years of probation for shooting a man in the head while conducting an armed robbery in a Northwest home where a 10-year-old and 12-year-old were present and ordered to the ground.

On April 16, 2010, Gladden went to Kevin Hall's residence in the 3200 block of Spaulding Avenue and held him up at gunpoint. Responding to a call at 9:49 p.m., police discovered Hall in the basement suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. They also discovered two children lying on their stomachs with their hands behind their heads and Hall's fiancée tied up with an electrical cord. Hall survived his injury.

A Baltimore jury convicted Gladden, 21, on October 14, 2011, of attempted second-degree murder, two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, three counts of assault, the use of a handgun in the commission of a violent crime, and false imprisonment.

Assistant State's Attorney Michelle Wilson prosecuted the case.
