7.21.11 Johnson Convicted for Murdering Two Men in Baltimore Highlands Neighborhood

July 21, 2011 -- A Baltimore City Circuit Court jury convicted Jermaine Johnson today for shooting two men to death in the summer of 2009 in the Baltimore Highlands neighborhood.

At approximately 10:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2009, Johnson and an unknown individual approached a group of people standing in the 200 block of North Conkling Street and started shooting, firing at least 17 shots. They targeted two people in particular, Gerry Martin and Darvin Jones, as they tried to get away. Martin, 18, and Jones, 19, both died from their gunshot wounds.

The jury convicted Johnson, 30, of first-degree murder, two counts of conspiracy first-degree murder, and two gun charges.

Scheduled for sentencing on August 29, 2011, Johnson faces a maximum of three life terms plus 20 years in prison.

Assistant State's Attorney Tonya LaPolla prosecuted the case.
