4.29.11: Green Convicted of Attempted Murder for Shooting at Police Officers Following Traffic Stop
April 29, 2011 -- A Baltimore City Circuit Court jury convicted Bradrick Green yesterday of attempted first-degree murder and other charges for shooting at 11 police officers following a traffic stop in November 2009.
At roughly 7 p.m. on November 21, 2009, Baltimore County Police contacted Baltimore City Police to request assistance with a traffic stop in the southwestern district of the city. When the officers were in position, they pulled the vehicle over in the 200 block of S. Athol Avenue. As soon as the car came to a stop, Green exited the passenger door and began shooting at police. He continued to fire as he fled on foot. Police pursued and ultimately shot Green, causing him to drop his .45 caliber handgun, which was recovered with no ammunition left in the magazine. Green was then arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment.
No officers were injured by gunfire, but one officer suffered a shoulder injury that required medical treatment. One of Green's shots hit the police vehicle driven by Baltimore City Police Officer Chantell Washington.
The car that Green was in at the time of the incident was driven by hack. The driver was questioned and released.
In addition to attempted first-degree murder, Green, 36, also was convicted of first-degree assault, 12 counts of using a handgun in a crime of violence, handgun on a person, handgun in a vehicle, and being a felon in possession of a regulated firearm. Scheduled for sentencing on August 3, 2011, Green faces a maximum of 11 life terms plus 306 years in prison.
Assistant State's Attorney David M. Grzechowiak prosecuted the case.
