7.5.11: Ellis Sentenced for Two Shootings in Less than Two Months in Same Neighborhood

July 5, 2011 -- Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge M. Brooke Murdoch sentenced Michael Ellis today to 25 years in prison for two separate shootings that injured three people, including an innocent bystander, in West Baltimore during the summer of 2010.

In the 1600 block of Presbury Court just after 11 p.m. on July 20, 2010, Ellis shot Dasmon Williams during a verbal dispute. He also hit a bystander, Sean Burrows, while firing six shots at his intended victim. Williams and Burrows were treated a nearby hospital and recovered from their injuries.

A little more than one month later, on September 2, 2010, Ellis fired six shots at Lawrence Taylor Jr., striking him multiple times. This second shooting took place in the 1600 block of Vincent Court, which is right around the corner from the location of the first shooting. Taylor also recovered from his injuries.

Ellis, 19, pled guilty to first-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and two counts of handgun use in the commission of a violent crime.

Assistant State's Attorney Kelly Madigan prosecuted the case.
