7.14.11: Fortune Convicted for Double Shooting in West Baltimore Liquor Store
July 14, 2011 -- A Baltimore City Circuit Court jury convicted James Fortune today of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder for shooting two people inside a West Baltimore liquor store in January 2008.
Responding to a report of a shooting at the D&N Liquor Store in the 1100 block of N. Stricker Street, officers discovered two individuals, Sidney Millner and Natavien Henry, suffering from gunshot wounds. Hit three times in the back and once in the head, Millner died from his injuries. Henry survived the attack, but a gunshot would to the neck resulted in permanent paralysis from the neck down.
The jury also convicted Fortune of four handgun crimes for the incident. Scheduled for sentencing on September 20, 2011, Fortune, 36, faces a maximum of 103 years in prison.
Assistant State's Attorney Tonya LaPolla prosecuted the case.
