9.20.11: Fortune Sentenced to 90 Years for Killing One Man, Attempting to Kill Another in 2008

September 20, 2011 -- Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Edward R.K. Hargadon sentenced James Fortune today to 90 years in prison for killing one man and attempting to kill another inside a West Baltimore liquor store in January 2008.

Responding to a report of a shooting at the D&N Liquor Store in the 1100 block of N. Stricker Street, officers discovered two individuals, Sidney Millner and Natavien Henry, suffering from gunshot wounds. Millner died from his injuries. Henry survived the attack, but a gunshot wound to the neck resulted in permanent paralysis from the neck down.

A Baltimore jury convicted Fortune, 36, on July 14, 2011, of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and handgun violations for the incident.

Assistant State's Attorney Tonya LaPolla prosecuted the case.
