12.22.11: Scott Sentenced to Life Plus 40 for Murdering Man During Robbery

December 22, 2011 -- Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Timothy Doory sentenced Abron Scott on Monday to life plus 40 years in prison for murdering a man during an armed robbery in a West Baltimore apartment.

On September 9, 2009, Scott entered a third-floor apartment through an unlocked door in the 500 block of North Carey Street. Inside, he produced a handgun and announced a robbery, ordering the people present to kneel. One of them, Shelton Elliott, refused and began to fight Scott. During the struggle, Scott shot Elliott multiple times, killing the 43 year old. Scott then fled.

A Baltimore jury convicted Scott, 44, on October 17, 2011, of first-degree murder, two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, and the use of handgun in the commission in a crime of violence.

Assistant State's Attorney Jessica M. Paugh prosecuted the case.
