Major Investigation

The Major Investigations Unit focuses on the citywide investigation and prosecution of violent repeat offenders and violent criminal organizations. The goal of this unit is to work with local, state and federal law enforcement partners to develop and use a wide range of investigative techniques in a proactive way to build cases against these targets for prosecution.

Gerald Collins was selected to succeed Thiru Vignarajah as the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s newest leader of the Major Investigations Unit.

Gerald Collins is a former Maryland Assistant Attorney General. Collins worked in the Maryland AG’s Criminal Division, where he was cross-­‐designated as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Maryland. His responsibilities in this role included: prosecution coordination with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and collaborating with the Maryland Exile program and Project Safe Neighborhoods liaisons.

Before joining the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, Collins worked for several years in the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office handling cases in District Court and Juvenile Court. He also worked on the Office’s gang, appeals/instant jury trial, and Up-­‐County Felony Prosecution teams. Collins graduated from the University of Maryland in 1995 with an undergraduate degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice. He completed his Juris Doctorate at Washington, D.C.’s Catholic University, Columbus School of Law.
