Description: The Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office is seeking an applicant for a grant position in its Narcotics/Major Investigations Unit.  The Unit handles complex investigations and prosecutions of criminal gang activities, firearms and narcotics trafficking, human trafficking, prison corruption, violent felonies, including serial robberies and home invasions, as well as homicides. The prosecutor will be cross-designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney (SAUSAs) for the District of Maryland and will primarily work out of the Baltimore Office of the United States Attorney. The SAUSA will work closely and coordinate with the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office, local police departments, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (“ATF”), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”), the Drug Enforcement Administration (“DEA”) and other federal and state task forces to identify and prosecute those individuals and organizational targets responsible for committing acts of violence throughout the City of Baltimore.

The SAUSA will be expected to assist in both the investigation and prosecution (including extensive grand jury, pre-trial, and trial work) of a variety of firearms, narcotics, and violent crimes, including, but not limited to: (1) racketeering and gang related offenses, (2) use of firearms in furtherance of violent and drug trafficking crimes, (3) illegal firearms possession, and (4) firearms trafficking offenses. In addition, the SAUSA will work closely with the United States Attorney’s Office’s designated Project Safe Neighborhoods Coordinator and working groups to serve as a legal advisor as cases are identified for prosecution in federal and/or state jurisdictions.

Experience: The ideal candidate will have a J. D. degree, be admitted to a State bar, and have at least one full year of litigation experience. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in criminal investigations and prosecutions. Strong abilities to build and maintain relationships with victims, witnesses, and law enforcement are essential, along with excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.

Salary: $80,000 + comprehensive benefits package.
