The Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Chief State’s Attorney – Eastside District Courthouse Building Chief, located at 1400 E. North Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21213.

The District Court Division operates across four locations and is responsible for all misdemeanor criminal matters and traffic offenses carrying potential incarceration, including DUI, hit and run, fleeing and eluding, and licensing violations. It also manages three problem‑solving courts and several specialty dockets. Approximately 60 employees staff the District Court Division, which serves as the entry point for new prosecutors with a strong emphasis on training and professional development.

Position Overview

The Eastside Building Chief oversees day‑to‑day operations of a building that houses two criminal courts, a criminal traffic court, and the Central Maryland Regional Veterans Treatment Court (CMRVTC). The Chief directly supervises approximately thirteen legal and non‑legal staff members and reports to the District Court Division Chief. This role also collaborates with other building chiefs and District Court trainers to support training, coaching, retention, and resiliency for new attorneys.

Responsibilities

  • Handle the Preliminary Hearing Docket
  • Litigate high profile and complex district court matters;
  • Respond to Motions to Recall Warrants and other motions requiring State input;
  • Oversee identity theft investigations and prosecution;
  • Assist with training and development of new attorneys;  
  • Observe daily court proceedings and meet with judges, members of the Bar, and the public as needed; Perform other duties as assigned or delegated.

Qualifications

  • D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in Maryland;
  • Strong background in District Court practices and significant trial experience;
  • Strong interest in problem solving courts, including policy and procedure development;
  • Adept in Constitutional Law and Criminal Law and Procedure;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong motivational, interpersonal, organizational, and time‑management skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and resolve issues professionally.

Applicant is required to pass a criminal background investigation, which includes fingerprinting.

Compensation: Starting salary is $95,494.00 - $152,721.00 and commensurate with experience. Compensation also includes competitive benefits package.
