Duties of the ASA include working on all aspects of the conviction integrity program including directing the operational screening and initial review of all cases submitted and identifying those cases which are candidates for re-investigation. Same re-investigation may include traveling off site for witness interviews, crime scene evaluations and working with external agencies to gather documents. The ASA will attend regular status meetings, meet with defense attorneys, and interface with relevant forensic personnel at the BPD lab. The ASA will work closely alongside the CIP law clerk, investigator and our grant partners at the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project/University of Baltimore Innocence Project Clinic. The ASA will participate in off-site trainings, conferences, legislative and related developmental opportunities in furtherance of expansion of the conviction integrity program. The ASA will assist in development of a risk assessment to identify and review those cases at risk for wrongful conviction. The ASA will also handle writs of actual innocence petitions filed in court and will be called upon to assist with post trial related matters as needed.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and will bring a strong desire to work collaboratively. The candidate will have a demonstrated ability to approach cases from a balance perspective to ensure the equitability of each outcome.

The candidate must possess demonstrated computer literacy. The candidate must be familiar with or readily able to become familiar with relevant post trial statutes and case law. Prior prosecutorial felony victim jury trial experience to verdict is required. Homicide jury trial experience is a plus. Prior criminal defense jury trial experience - in addition to the required prior prosecution experience – is a plus.

 

Salary:

$72,033 + full benefits package.
