The Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City is seeking to fill the position of Team Captain in the Juvenile Division. This position is located at the Baltimore City Juvenile Justice Center, 300 North Gay Street, Baltimore, MD 21202.

The Juvenile Division handles cases involving individuals under the age of 18 who are charged with criminal offenses. The Division works with the Department of Juvenile Services (DJS), the Baltimore Police Department (BPD), and community partners to ensure that juvenile offenders are held accountable for their actions while also receiving rehabilitative support designed to reduce recidivism and promote positive outcomes.

The Juvenile Team Captain serves as a legal and strategic resource for the division, mentors and manages junior attorneys, and assists the Division Chief and Deputy Division Chief in the overall management of the Division.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and advise Juvenile prosecutors in the investigation, preparation, and litigation of cases in Juvenile Court;
  • Assist in training prosecutors on matters related to criminal and juvenile law, case preparation, and courtroom litigation;   
  • Represent the State’s Attorney’s Office at community, stakeholder, and committee meetings;
  • Litigate high-profile and complex Juvenile matters assigned by the Division Chief;  
  • Provide legal assistance to law enforcement when requested;
  • Conduct a full range of hearings, including Arraignments, Adjudications, Dispositions, Review of Court Orders, Violations of Probation, Waiver Hearings, and Transfer Hearings;
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • JD from an accredited law school and admission to practice in Maryland.
  • Significant felony trial experience;   
  • Strong knowledge of Constitutional Law and Criminal Law and Procedure;
  • Excellent legal analysis, decision‑making ability, and professional judgment;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Effective motivational, interpersonal, organizational, and time‑management skills;
  • Ability to work professionally with diverse individuals and resolve issues effectively;
  • Knowledge of juvenile law and reform preferred.

Applicant is required to pass a criminal background investigation, which includes fingerprinting.

Compensation: Starting salary is $81,097-$129,584 commensurate with experience. Compensation also includes competitive benefits package.
