The Circuit Court for Baltimore City Adult Drug Treatment Court (DTC) is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Assistant State’s Attorney (ASA) to join its specialized problem-solving court team. DTC provides substance abuse treatment, intensive supervision, judicial monitoring, and supportive services such as vocational, educational, and life skills training. These services aim to support participants in making meaningful behavioral and lifestyle changes and successfully reintegrate into their communities. The DTC team includes a Judge, Drug Court Coordinator, ASA, Assistant Public Defender (APD), Clinical Care Coordinators, Probation Officers, Case Managers, and Peer Specialists.
The DTC ASA plays a vital role in advancing the mission of DTC: improving public safety and reducing recidivism through timely intervention, treatment, and holistic support for non-violent offenders with substance use disorders. The ASA will manage the vetting and entry process for prospective participants, evaluate eligibility, represent the State during plea proceedings and review hearings, and collaborate with the multidisciplinary DTC team to promote participant success and accountability.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and handle weekly DTC dockets;
- Attend pre-docket team staffings to address participant progress, potential pleas, program policies, and developments;
- Conduct 8-505 and 8-507 hearings;
- Prepare legal documents, including plea agreements, motions, subpoenas, memoranda, orders, and correspondence;
- Collect and maintain statistical data (approvals, pleas, rejections, closed cases, bench warrants);
- Develop, update, and refine DTC policies and procedures;
- Attend and participate in DTC advisory meetings with the DTC judge, Department of Parole and Probation, Public Defender’s Office, BHSB, and treatment providers;
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in Maryland;
- Significant felony trial experience;
- Adept in Constitutional Law and Criminal Law and Procedure;
- Excellent legal analysis, decision‑making ability, and professional judgment;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Effective motivational, interpersonal, organizational, and time‑management skills;
- Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and resolve issues professionally.
- Excellent communication and collaboration in multidisciplinary settings
- Commitment to restorative justice and problem-solving court principles;
- Prior DTC or problem-solving court experience preferred
Applicant is required to pass a criminal background investigation, which includes fingerprinting.
Compensation: Starting salary is $81,097-$129,584 commensurate with experience. Compensation also includes competitive benefits package.
