Great Expectations

Launched in the 2015-2016 school year at Franklin Square Elementary School in Central Baltimore, Great Expectations (GE) is a ten-month program that introduces fourth grade Baltimore City Public School students to careers in the criminal justice system.  Since the program’s inception, the BCSAO has exposed close to 500 fourth and fifth graders to positive careers in the criminal justice system.

The goal of the program is to encourage local youths’ interest in law enforcement careers, and expose students to the positive side of the criminal justice system while improving students’ critical thinking and reading skills.  Once a month, criminal justice professionals from the BCSAO, Public Defender’s Office, BPD, Baltimore City Fire Department, District and Circuit Courts, City and State Legislatures, and community activists engage GE students and educate them on their profession and role within the criminal justice system.
