This is the first time Maryland’s Governor has visited the State’s Attorney’s Office in over eight years

Baltimore, Md. (February 24, 2023) - Today, State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates welcomed Governor Wes Moore to the Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City (BCSAO) for a tour and sit-down meeting about public safety in Baltimore City. The meeting was the first time Maryland’s Governor had visited the State’s Attorney’s Office in over eight years. The BCSAO is responsible for prosecuting crimes in Baltimore City; it is the largest local prosecutorial office in the state of Maryland and prosecutes over 40,000 cases yearly.

“Leadership matters and was on full display today as Governor Moore took time to meet with ASAs and support staff to hear about their work and what more is needed to be successful in the mission,” said State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates. “It’s truly an honor to show the Governor the work we are doing at my office first-hand and discuss the critical issue of how we make Baltimore, and Maryland as a whole, safer for our children. It is clear that he wants to work with leadership on all levels in a productive and meaningful way to benefit all Marylanders.”

“It was great to spend some time with Baltimore State's Attorney Ivan Bates at his office in Baltimore to learn about how they’re working to make our communities safer,” said Governor Wes Moore. “State's Attorney Bates and his team work around the clock to better our state and I look forward to being a real partner in helping them accomplish their goal of making Maryland a safer home for everyone.”

The Governor and State’s Attorney met with the SAO’s Executive Team, support staff, and numerous prosecutors before having a sit-down meeting.
