For Immediate Release 1/28/2015

Baltimore City Assistant State’s Attorney, Jeffrey Finucane, obtained a conviction against Antonio L. Edwards on felony possession of a firearm after having been convicted of a crime of violence Tuesday, January 27th, 2015.

According to Finucane, Edwards was driving in the 1200 block of East Lafayette St in April 2014, when he illegally passed an unmarked police vehicle on the right hand side. The officers attempted to make a traffic stop, and Edwards fled from the officers in his green Chevy Cruze. Shortly after the pursuit began, Edwards lost control of his vehicle in the 1400 block of East Hoffman Street and crashed his vehicle. Edwards fled on foot and was eventually subdued by the arresting officers.

Investigators found a black .38 caliber revolver handgun in the vehicle Edwards was driving.

“Detectives Stach, Goodwin, and Verkest did a wonderful job with this case.” Finucane said. “They were well prepared and delivered excellent testimony. When we get to trial, we want to do everything we can to get the right outcome.”

Cynthia Banks, Chief of the Felony Trial Division, is Finucane’s supervisor. She expressed high praise for his work.

“Jeff is quickly becoming one of our go to prosecutors. His style is very clean, he commands respect, and he chooses his battles wisely in the courtroom. Judges really like that. He’s growing exceptionally well into a career prosecutor.” Banks said.

Edwards is scheduled for sentencing February 19th, 2015 before Judge Williams.

“I keep saying it over and over. We’ve got the best prosecutors in the country right here in Baltimore. I’ve made it clear that violent repeat offenders are this administration’s top priority. We will continue to fight day in and day out to keep the public safe and Edwards’ conviction is evidence of it.” State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby said.
