Office of the State's Attorney for Baltimore City

For Immediate Release 5/8/2015

Darius Brown, 25, has been sentenced to Life in prison for first-degree murder of Xavier “Ziggy” Lewis. A jury found Brown guilty on March 2, 2015.

On May 22, 2013, around 10p.m., officers were called to the 2800 block of Ashland Avenue for a shooting. Police arrived to find Xavier “Ziggy” Lewis,25, dead after being shot five times. According to witnesses Brown walked up to Lewis and shot him several times, then fled on foot.

Assistant State’s Attorney Bethany Durand tried this case. Investigators had very little evidence, only a toothpick and the victim’s body; still with the hard work of Baltimore Police Detective Luis Delgado and the brave witnesses who came forward and contacted police, Brown was arrested, convicted and sentenced.

“I’m thankful to have such talented prosecutors like Bethany on staff and I appreciate the hard work of the detectives at the Baltimore Police Department who brought this case to a close,” said State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. “I would also like to applaud the witnesses who came forward on behalf of Mr. Lewis, it is their bravery that helped us in this case.”

Brown was also found guilty for two handgun offenses for his role in the death of Lewis.
