Chief Deputy State’s Attorney

Janice Bledsoe returns to the State’s Attorney’s Office as Deputy State’s Attorney of Criminal Justice. In her new role, she is ultimately responsible for the Juvenile, Public Trust, Forfeiture, Criminal Strategies, and Criminal Investigations units.

Janice is a well-­‐respected attorney whose practice has focused on criminal defense for more than 15 years. Janice has represented clients in many high profile cases, including the murder of former City Councilman Kenneth Harris, Jemini Jones, a city police officer accused of rape, and Ronald Hinton, a juvenile accused of murdering a 4 yrs. old.

Janice served as a Baltimore City Assistant State’s Attorney in 2011 and 2012 as the division chief of the police integrity division. She successfully prosecuted misconduct cases involving Baltimore City officers. She was a member of the Prison Corruption Task Force where she worked on the investigation into the corruption of the Baltimore City jail by the Black Guerilla Family.

Janice is a Maryland native. She attended St. Paul’s School for Girls and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in English at Loyola University. She earned a teaching certificate at Johns Hopkins University and spent five years teaching special education in the Baltimore County Schools.

Janice is a graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law. She began her law career as a law clerk for the Legal Aid Bureau where she worked in the Child In Need of Assistance Unit. After passing the Maryland State Bar, she continued her employment at The Legal Aide Bureau as an attorney. She left the Legal Aide Bureau to enter private practice. While in private practice, she focused on representing parents in Children in Need of Assistance proceedings, personal injury, and criminal law.

She is a member of the Baltimore City Bar, (where she served as the Chairperson for the Criminal Law division in 2013-­‐2014), the United States Federal Bar, and the Maryland State Bar. Janice lives in the city of Baltimore.
