TYRONE BEANE SENTENCED TO 75-YEARS IN PRISON; AMOUNT OF TIME
RECEIVED THE MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE

Baltimore, MD -- March 21, 2003 -- At a hearing today, Judge John N. Prevas sentenced Tyrone Beane, 18, of the 700 block of Wharton Court, to the maximum penalty allowable, 75-years in prison, for the November 5, 2001 attempted second-degree murder, robbery, assault, and use of a handgun in a crime of violence against Fard Myles, 19 and a 15-year old girl.

A Baltimore City jury convicted Beane January 21, 2003.

Judge Prevas sentenced Beane to 30-years in prison on the attempted second-degree murder count, 15-years in prison on the robbery count, 10-years on the assault count and 20-years on the use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence count for a total of 75-years in prison.  He ordered that the sentences run consecutively.

On the night of November 5, 2001, a 15-year old girl and a group of children who were leaving music lessons at a recreation center in the 1300 block of East Monument Street saw Beane and two other unidentified men beating Myles as he laid on the ground. They then saw Beane use a handgun to shoot Myles. Before the 15-year old girl and children could make it to safety, she testified Beane ran over and held a gun to her head. After Beane robbed the girl, one of his accomplices yelled for Beane to hurry up and kill the girl. While the 15-year old girl recited the 23 Psalm, Beane pulled the trigger on the handgun four times but the weapon did not discharge.

Assistant State’s Attorneys Gregory G. Hopper and Gerard B. Volatile prosecuted the case.
