Position description

The Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City is seeking to fill the position of Office Service Assistant II in the Misdemeanor Jury Trial Division (MJT). This position is located at 120 E. Baltimore Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21202.

The MJT Division prosecutes all misdemeanor cases prayed or appealed from District Court, as well as complex and high-profile misdemeanors and traffic matters. The division also functions as a critical training hub for 8-12 junior Circuit Court prosecutors developing jury-trial litigation skills.  

The Office Service Assistant is responsible for assisting the Assistant State’s Attorneys in preparing MJT jury trials and appeals. The Office Service Assistant also provides support to the attorneys during court. Additionally, the Office Service Assistant handles administrative duties such as scanning, collecting mail and faxes, preparing subpoenas, file maintenance, photocopying, phone coverage and other support for MJT as directed by the Division Chief, Deputy Division Chief or Office Manager.

Salary range

$40,770 -$48,225

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Intake all cases arriving from District Court including jury trial prayers and appeals and ensure that all matters expected to arrive from District Court have been accounted for and assigned;
  • Disburse the files to the assigned attorneys;
  • Prepare entries of appearance;
  • Assist attorneys with charging and requests for discovery
  • Draft charging documents;
  • Requesting BWC, 911, KGA, CCTV footage, medical records and any/all other discovery requests needed by the attorneys;
  • Using Word, Excel and other modern software in the preparation of cases;
  • Daily update of the sign-out board;
  • Assist ASA’s by communicating with the court and police;
  • Organizing and updating the bench warrant file cabinet.

Position requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Good oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills;
  • Ability to organize and coordinate multiple priorities in a high volume and fast-paced environment to meet deadlines;
  • Punctual and reliable;
  • Ability to use programs in the Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Familiarity with Court & SAO processes and workflow preferred;
  • Experience with court e-filing system (MDEC) preferred.

Benefits package

Salary: Salary range is $40,770 -$48,225. Compensation also includes a competitive benefits package.
