Community members and organizations have the option to submit what are known as community impact statements. The State’s Attorney’s Office encourages individuals who have experienced or witnessed the broader effects of a crime to share how it has impacted their neighborhood or community.
The judge can consider this statement when sentencing the defendant. Please note that once submitted, the statement becomes part of the criminal case file. This means the judge, prosecutor, probation officer, defendant, and defense attorney will all receive a copy.
The following is a standard community impact statement form that can be completed and submitted online. Complete as much of the following document as you can. When you have finished, be sure to read over the document and then hit the send button to submit it. You may fill out the form or it may be helpful to write your statement in the form of a letter to the judge. If you write a separate letter, please still upload it with this form so that we have the pertinent case information. If you have any questions during this process, do not hesitate to contact our Witness Division at (410)-396-1897.
