MSAA Board unanimously voted the State’s Attorney to a two-year term at their annual conference
Baltimore, Md. (June 11, 2025) - Today, the board of the Maryland State’s Attorneys' Association (MSAA) unanimously voted for Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates to serve as the next president. The vote took place at MSAA’s annual conference in Ocean City, Maryland. State’s Attorney Bates takes over for Howard County State’s Attorney Rich Gibson and will serve a two-year term before the next vote. Presidents are limited to two terms.
“It is a privilege to continue the critical work of this talented group of prosecutors in advocating for practical legislation in Annapolis and supporting prosecutors throughout our great state,” said State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates. “I want to thank State’s Attorney Gibson for his leadership for more than two terms. I look forward to prioritizing public safety in Maryland and enhancing support for its prosecutors through all that the MSAA does.”
“Today, the MSAA Board has taken a major step in continuing the work of uplifting justice and accountability in the State of Maryland with the election of Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates as President of the Board,” said MSAA Coordinator Steven Kroll. “State’s Attorney Bates’ experience as a line prosecutor, combined with his stellar leadership of the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office, makes him the ideal person to lead MSAA and continue to enhance public safety in our beloved state.”
