Antonio Grant fired seven shots at two people riding bikes through a busy gas station parking lot in May of 2025

Baltimore, Md. (April 13, 2026) – Today, the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office announced that Defendant Antonio Grant was sentenced to 80 years of incarceration, with the first 15 years ineligible for parole, for two counts of First-Degree Assault, one count of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Crime of Violence, and two counts of Firearm Possession by a Prohibited Person. Deputy Chief Laura Ruppersberger and Assistant State’s Attorney Matthew Galey with the State’s Attorney’s Major Investigations Unit prosecuted this case.

“This lengthy sentence reflects the seriousness of the Defendant's violent and reckless actions. By firing numerous shots outside of a crowded gas station, this individual showed a complete disregard for human life, public safety, and the rule of law. This kind of brazen violence has no place in our neighborhoods, and today’s sentence sends a clear message that under my administration, those who endanger innocent lives will be held fully accountable,” said State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates. “I want to thank our Major Investigations Unit, Baltimore Police Department (BPD), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) Baltimore for their continued partnership, tireless work in building this case, and, ultimately, securing justice on behalf of the victims and the community. Because of their dedication, two victims who could have lost their lives have seen their attacker held accountable, and our community is safer as a result.”

On May 5, 2025, at approximately 8:05 p.m., BPD Southwest District patrol officers responded to the Princess Plaza Shopping Center, located at 2801 Edmondson Avenue, in reference to a ShotSpotter alert that occurred approximately two minutes before their arrival. During the canvass of the scene, officers located and recovered seven spent 9mm caliber shell casings in the gas station parking lot directly in front of a convenience store.

During the course of the investigation, officers retrieved surveillance camera footage from the Carroll Fuel gas station located at 2801 Edmondson Avenue. Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, the suspect was found to be a male, later identified as Antonio Grant. At approximately 7:59 p.m., the Defendant walked from Big Boys Carryout restaurant at 2808 Edmondson Avenue to 2801 Edmondson Avenue, where he entered the Carroll Fuel gas station store. The Defendant then exited the store and stood in front of it from 8:01 p.m. to 8:05 p.m. At approximately 8:05 p.m., two unidentified males rode bicycles through the area, passing the Carroll Fuel gas station. The Defendant withdrew a black handgun and raised it towards the bicyclists. At that time, firearm muzzle flashes were observed coming from the black handgun. The Defendant then fled westbound on foot. The two unidentified victims ran away eastbound on Edmondson Avenue.

Through review of the surveillance footage, detectives from the Baltimore Police Department Group Violence Unit, who were investigating a drug trafficking organization operating within the area of the 2800 block of Edmondson Avenue at the time of the shooting, identified Antonio Grant as the individual who fired at the two unidentified victims on May 5, 2025.

On May 16, 2025 at approximately 5:00 a.m., Baltimore Police Department Group Violence Unit detectives executed a search and seizure warrant at the Defendant's residence where they recovered one loaded Smith & Wesson M&P9 Shield EZ Performance Center 9mm Luger semi-automatic pistol, one sock containing twenty (20) rounds of 9mm Luger ammunition, one box containing fifteen (15) rounds of 9mm ammunition, one white bulletproof vest, and clothing that matched the hat and shoes the Defendant was wearing in the surveillance footage of the shooting on May 5, 2025.

The firearm recovered from the Defendant’s bedroom was submitted to the Baltimore Police Department Evidence Management Unit and was test-fired by a certified firearms examiner who concluded that the seven spent 9mm shell casings recovered from the scene of the May 5, 2025, incident were all consistent with having been fired from the firearm recovered from the Defendant’s bedroom on May 16, 2025.

The Defendant is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to a January 9, 2015, conviction for Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance in the Baltimore City Circuit Court.
