Pablo Agosto Acevedo fatally shot 38-year-old Pedie Edwards II in November 2023
Baltimore, Md. (June 23, 2026) - Today, the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office announced that Defendant Pablo Agosto Acevedo was sentenced to Life plus 38 years for fatally shooting 38-year-old Pedie Edwards II on November 2, 2023, at the 600 block of Decker Street. A jury convicted the defendant in February of First-Degree Murder, Use of a Handgun in the Commission of a Crime of Violence, Felon in Possession of a Handgun, and Tampering with Evidence. Assistant State’s Attorney Rita Wisthoff-Ito prosecuted this case.
“This sentence reflects the unwavering commitment of our prosecutors and law enforcement partners to pursue justice, regardless of how far a defendant goes to conceal their crimes. This case required extraordinary coordination among multiple law enforcement agencies across state lines to piece together critical evidence after the defendant traveled to New York City and attempted to hide his actions by disposing of Mr. Edwards’ body in the Hackensack River in New Jersey,” said Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates. “Despite those efforts, investigators and prosecutors remained relentless in their pursuit of the truth. I commend Special Prosecutor Rita Wisthoff-Ito and every law enforcement partner involved for their tireless work in ensuring that Pablo Acevedo is held fully accountable for this senseless and devastating act of violence. Ultimately, no amount of planning, distance, or attempts to destroy evidence will prevent us from securing justice for victims and their families.”
On November 2, 2023, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the Baltimore County Police Department contacted the Baltimore Police Department Homicide Unit, advising that they were investigating a missing person incident where it was believed a person identified as Pedie Edwards II may have been killed by a person identified as Pablo David Agosto Acevedo. It was reported that on November 1, 2023, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Southeast District officers responded to 622 N. Decker Avenue and met with the victim’s sister, who stated that her brother, Pedie Edwards, had not returned home and was last seen with Pablo Agosto Acevedo on November 1, 2023.
During the investigation, video footage from a camera was recovered in the 600 block of N. Decker Avenue. The footage shows the vehicle operator as victim Pedie Edwards and the front passenger as Pablo Agosto Acevedo. On November 1, 2023, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Pablo Agosto Acevedo briefly got out of the vehicle from the passenger side. He walks away from the car, then suddenly turns around and approaches it again on the passenger side. In the video, Pablo Agosto Acevedo opens the front passenger door and retrieves something from the vehicle. It is at this time, based on his actions, that it is believed that the defendant shoots the victim from the front passenger seat. The Defendant then closes the passenger door, walks to the rear of the vehicle, and opens the front driver’s door where the victim is seated. The Defendant is then seen moving the body of the victim from the front driver’s seat to the rear of the vehicle. Shortly after, the Defendant gets into the driver’s seat of the car and drives away from the location. On November 1, 2023, at 2:26 a.m. Baltimore City 911 received a call regarding a discharge in the 600 block of N. Decker Avenue. The caller reported hearing several gunshots 45 minutes before calling. Responding units canvassed the area and found no ballistic evidence indicating that an incident occurred at the location at that time.
As the investigation continued, it was discovered that the car in the video footage was stolen and later recovered on November 2, 2023, at approximately 8:30 p.m., in the 1900 block of Willow Spring Road in Dundalk, Maryland. The vehicle had been set on fire. Inside the vehicle, a credit card belonging to the victim, Pedie Edwards, along with defendant Pablo Agosto Acevedo’s driver’s license, was found. In addition to these items, three 40 caliber spent shell casings and swabs of suspected blood were recovered.
On December 9, 2023, a deceased and decomposed unidentified male was recovered from the Hackensack River near Laurel Hill Park, Secaucus, New Jersey. The recovery location is on the direct route from Baltimore to JFK Airport in New York. Through fingerprints, the body was identified as Pedie Edwards II. An autopsy was performed by the Essex County Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause of death was ruled as gunshot wounds. The manner of death was ruled homicide. Three bullets were recovered during the examination, which is consistent with the number of spent shell casings recovered from the vehicle.
Further investigation into the whereabouts of Pablo Agosto Acevedo revealed that he flew from JFK Airport on November 2, 2023, and was found in Puerto Rico. The investigation also showed he had access to a 2023 Grey Nissan Ultima. With assistance from the Port Authority in New York, the MD Tag for that vehicle was noted, and a check showed that the tag had multiple readings, including at the Lincoln Tunnel and the JFK Expressway, on November 2, 2023. The vehicle in question entered the red parking lot on November 2, 2023, at approximately 7:00 a.m., with no exit license readings. Port Authority Detectives conducted a canvass of all four levels of the parking lot and discovered a 2023 gray Nissan Altima on the third floor with no visible license plates. The VIN matched a vehicle stolen from Baltimore, consistent with the MD Tag readings from the Lincoln Tunnel and the JFK Expressway.
Additionally, the defendant was previously convicted on May 7, 2015, in Baltimore City Circuit Court of Kidnapping, which is a disqualifying crime and prohibits him from possessing a regulated firearm.
