Defendant Bryan Cherry Sentenced to Life Without Parole for Fatal Beating of Sierra Johnson

Baltimore (Md.) September 11, 2026 - Today, the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office announced that Defendant Bryan Cherry was sentenced to Life without the possibility of parole for fatally beating Sierra Johnson in July of 2024 at the 800 block of Abbott Court. The Defendant also faces sentencing in Baltimore County for the murders of Autumn Harvery and her grandmother, Iona Sellers. The Defendant is currently serving a 40-year sentence for attempted murder in Baltimore City for stabbing a man on June 26, 2024, at the 1000 block of E. Eager Street. Homicide Unit Team Captain Elizabeth Stock prosecuted this Defendant's Baltimore City cases.

“This sentence ensures the defendant will never be free in our community to threaten people’s lives and inflict harm,” said Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates. “Bryan Cherry has repeatedly demonstrated a capacity for extraordinary violence and a complete disregard for human life. This sentence, alongside his 40-year sentence for attempted murder in our city and his guilty plea to a double murder in Baltimore County, sends a loud and resounding message that our office prioritizes justice and public safety above all else.

On July 14, 2024, at approximately 9:29 a.m., Baltimore Police officers were dispatched to 846 Abbott Court for a wellness check following a report of a female screaming from that location and a sighting of a male leaving the residence with suspected blood on his clothing. Upon arrival, witnesses advised police that a man jumped out the rear window of the residence and fled toward Homewood Street wearing a green, multi-colored jacket. Officers were able to locate and detain the suspect, later identified as Bryan Cherry, in the 1300 block of Homewood Street. 

Officers forced entry into the home at 846 Abbott Court, where they located Ms. Sierra Johnson, visibly deceased on the couch, with obvious signs of blunt force trauma to the head.

A backpack was recovered from the kitchen of the residence containing a crowbar with suspected blood on it. DNA testing later confirmed the blood belonged to the Victim. The Defendant’s DNA profile was found on the backpack, which also contained a pair of sneakers and pants with blood staining on them.
