Defendant Given an Additional Life Sentence in City Case, to be Served Consecutive to County Life Sentences

Baltimore, Md. (November 18, 2024) - Today, a Baltimore City judge sentenced Ameer Gittens to Life plus 15 years, the first five years without the possibility of parole, to be served consecutive to the sentence the defendant is currently serving for a Baltimore County homicide case of two Life terms without the possibility of parole, plus 50 years. Gittens fatally shot Antwan Lamont Edwards in the Saint Joseph's neighborhood of Southwest Baltimore in 2021. Three weeks prior, the defendant was involved in the murder of Christopher Walker and his son, Justin Walker, in Rosedale. Assistant State's Attorney Rita Wisthoff-Ito prosecuted this case. 

“There is no doubt that the State of Maryland is significantly safer with this defendant incarcerated for life. The utter disregard for human life demonstrated in this case underscores the seriousness of the defendant's actions,” said State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates. “My thoughts are firmly with the family members and loved ones who will be permanently affected by these crimes. I want to express my deep gratitude to ASA Wisthoff-Ito and the Baltimore Police Department for their unwavering commitment to delivering justice and closure in this case.”

On October 31, 2021, at approximately 12:01 a.m., Baltimore Police officers responded to a report of an individual being shot in the area of Palormo and Leeds Streets.  Upon arrival, officers located an individual suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the 3500 block of Leeds Street. The victim, Antwan Lamont Edwards, age 19, was later pronounced deceased at 12:26 a.m. at the hospital. The victim was with a female at the time of the shooting. 

The investigation revealed that the victim was driving a rental vehicle from Enterprise Rental Company. Using GPS data, the victim’s vehicle was discovered an hour later in the area of Presstman Street and Tiffany Alley. Using GPS tracking information about the defendant’s Gmail account and the defendant’s historical call detail records, the defendant's location could be matched to the vehicle's location. Additionally, the defendant was arrested on November 3, 2021, in Baltimore County in reference to a separate homicide that occurred in Rosedale. The defendant at that time was arrested with a firearm, which was found to be consistent with having fired the shell casings in this homicide.
