Defendant Pleads Guilty to Fatal Shooting of 17-Year-Old

Baltimore, Md. (February 10, 2026) – Today, the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office announced that Defendant Dejuan Cole was sentenced to Life, suspending all but 30 years, with the first five years ineligible for parole, for the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Devron Tyner in April 2024 at the 200 block of East Pratt Street. The Defendant pled guilty to First-Degree Murder and Use of a Handgun in a Crime of Violence. Felony Chief Twila Driggins prosecuted this case. 

“Today’s sentence holds this individual accountable for a devastating act of violence that took the life of Devron Tyner, a young man with so much potential and his entire future ahead of him. While no sentence can undo the pain inflicted on Devron’s family, this outcome reflects our unwavering commitment to seeking justice on behalf of victims and standing beside their loved ones every step of the way,” said State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates. “We remain mindful that behind every case is a family carrying unimaginable grief, and our office will continue to pursue accountability with both determination and compassion. Devron’s life mattered, and we hope this resolution provides a measure of closure as his family honors his memory.”

On April 1, 2024, at approximately 8:50 p.m., officers from the Baltimore Police Department reported to a shooting at the Renaissance Baltimore Harbor Place Hotel located at the 200 block of E. Pratt Street. Upon arrival, officers observed 17-year-old Devron Tyner lying motionless on the ground outside the hotel suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Shock Trauma Hospital, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries despite life-saving efforts. 

During the course of the investigation, several pieces of video footage were located and reviewed that depicted a suspect in a light-colored sweatshirt shooting the victim outside of the hotel. That suspect was later identified as Dejuan Cole.
