Defendant Receives Two Life Sentences plus 28 Years for Clifton Park Double Murder

Baltimore, Md. (August 25, 2025) – Today, the Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City announced that defendant Dandre Woods-Bethel was given two Life sentences plus 28 years, to be served consecutively, for the fatal shootings of Michelle Green and Julie Rice at the 2800 block of Clifton Park Terrace on September 12, 2020. Three other surviving female victims were also shot at but not struck. The defendant was found guilty of numerous offenses, including two counts of First-Degree Murder, three counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder, and multiple gun charges, following a lengthy bifurcated bench trial process to determine guilt and criminal responsibility. Assistant State’s Attorney Victoria Yeager prosecuted this case. 

“I must commend my Homicide Unit for seeing this challenging case through and ultimately securing justice for the loved ones of Ms. Green and Ms. Rice,” said State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates. “Ensuring that this defendant is never able to threaten and kill more victims after five years of legal battling is a testament to the Baltimore Police Department’s and Assistant State’s Attorney Yeager’s tenacity and perseverance.”

On September 12, 2020, at 6:45 p.m., Baltimore Police responded to the 2800 block of Clifton Park Terrace for a report of two people shot. Upon arrival, police located two females, identified as Michelle Green and Julie Rice, on the porch of 2822 Clifton Park Terrace, suffering from gunshot wounds. They were transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where they both eventually succumbed to their wounds. Defendant Dandre Woods-Bethel was identified as a suspect and arrested without incident at the scene. BPD’s Mobile Crime Lab located four 9mm luger shell casings, one projectile, and a cellphone on the porch of the defendant’s home.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined that five female victims were on the porch at the time when the defendant came out of his house and yelled, “Y’all need to clear the block”. The defendant proceeded to go in and out of his house, and at one point came outside with a gun and began shooting at the women on the porch.

While the defendant was alone in the interview room before the interview started, he made several incriminating statements, including, “I should have used hollow points”, “I didn’t mean to hurt them”, “I was just protecting my family”, and “I hope I didn’t hit no babies”. When he was interviewed, his first question after being read his Miranda rights was “How many caskets?”  Then he said that he was fearful because he was being set up. He then stated that he was fearful for his life and his family’s life because “they” were trying to break into his house.
