Last Man in Three Co-Defendant Case Sentenced to Life

Baltimore, Md. (September 3, 2025) – Today, the Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City announced that defendant Garry Morris was given a sentence of Life for First-Degree Murder and First-Degree Murder by Way of Conspiracy Resulting in Death. Morris’ co-defendants, Darrean Fleming and Wesley Lambert, were previously found guilty and each sentenced to Life in prison for their involvement in the murder of Amare Burruss in December of 2022 at the 4200 block of Pimlico Road. Assistant State’s Attorney Amy Brown prosecuted all of these cases.

“This is truly a regrettable case that shows just how deadly the consequences of carrying and using a firearm can be,” said State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates. “I am thankful to ASA Brown, who worked around the clock to ensure these defendants were held accountable for this reckless retaliatory violence. There are no winners when it comes to using firearms for retribution, and I hope that more individuals will come to understand that as my Homicide Unit continues to pursue these cases vigorously.”

On December 7, 2022, at 12:34 p.m., Baltimore Police responded to the 4200 block of Pimlico Road in response to a call for the discharge of a firearm. Upon arrival, they discovered Amare Burruss lying on his back suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.  

Video surveillance footage showed the victim firing a gun in the rear parking lot of the 4400 block of Park Heights Avenue at a known associate of the following defendants: Garry Morris, Darrean Fleming, and Wesley Lambert. Video footage showed all three co-defendants reacting to the shooting by getting into an older model dark gray Acura TL. Defendant Darrean Fleming was the driver, defendant Garry Morris was the front seat passenger, and defendant Wesley Lambert was the rear seat passenger. 

The car pulled into a McDonald’s parking lot, adjacent to the location where Mr. Burruss fired his gun. Mr. Burruss fled on foot while Mr. Fleming drove the Acura out of the McDonald’s parking lot. Three minutes later, the video shows Mr. Burruss walking alone in the 4200 block of Pimlico Road, and the same older gray Acura TL turning into the block. When the rotating CCTV camera turned back around, Mr. Burruss’s body could be seen lying in a yard on that block. No other car was seen pulling into the block after Mr. Fleming’s car. Video footage then captured Mr. Fleming’s car fleeing the scene, going the wrong way on a one-way street, at the corner of Pimlico and Loyola Northway, about two blocks from the murder scene.

Almost two years after the shooting, detectives uncovered additional information that identified all three co-defendants in the video footage.
