Maximum Sentence Handed Down to Former Teacher In Sexual Assault Case

Baltimore, Md. (December 17, 2025) - Today, the Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City announced that defendant Mustafa Pitts, a former teacher, was given the maximum sentence of 55 years of incarceration for two counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor. Assistant State’s Attorney Keera Gilbert prosecuted this case.

“No amount of time in prison can atone for this defendant’s devastating exploitation and abuse of our children,” said State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates. “I hope that this lengthy sentence brings some measure of justice to the survivor and their family. I am grateful to the jury for holding this heinous perpetrator accountable, and commend ASA Gilbert for her tireless work in this case.”

On February 3, 2024, Baltimore Police responded to reports of a sexual assault at the 100 block of W. 27th Street. Upon arrival, a witness reported that Mustafa Pitts had sexually assaulted an underage victim that morning between 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. The victim stated to the officer that the defendant told her to come to his room and take her clothes off before assaulting her. She reported that the defendant had been doing this for the past five years.
