Repeat Offender Sentenced to 45 Years for Beechfield Armed Carjacking

Baltimore, Md. (December 6, 2024) - Today, defendant Ikem Ravenell was sentenced above the guidelines to 45 years of incarceration, with the first 10 years ineligible for parole, for Armed Carjacking and Robbery with Dangerous Weapon. Ravenell was found guilty in August by a Baltimore City Jury on all counts. Before this incident, the defendant had two other Robbery convictions and a Possession of a Firearm with a prior Felony conviction on his record. Assistant State's Attorney Noor Amin prosecuted this case. 

"ASA Amin's skillful prosecution has led to a substantial and just sentence for an offender that demonstrated a propensity for committing violent criminal acts repeatedly throughout his life" said State's Attorney Ivan J. Bates. "This defendant has been convicted multiple times in the past of violent crimes, leaving my office no choice but to ask the court for a life-altering sentence. We will not tolerate carjackings, especially by repeat violent offenders. It is my hope that this case not only serves as a powerful reminder that unlawful actions have serious consequences, but also that this lengthy incarceration will alter this defendant's understanding of what is right and wrong. My office will continue to seek justice for victims and accountability for habitual criminal offenders in our city."

On June 19, 2023, an individual was driving his vehicle with his friend in the front passenger seat. The driver stopped his car in the area of the 4800 block of Stafford Road, where he was subsequently carjacked by the defendant, Ikem Ravenell, at gunpoint. The defendant also pointed the gun at the passenger and robbed him of his property. The defendant fled with the vehicle after the carjacking. While being pursued by the police, the defendant committed numerous traffic violations, putting other drivers at risk. After the defendant was arrested, a Baltimore Police officer returned to the stolen vehicle and recovered a loaded black handgun.
