SAO Announces Homicide Sentences for the Week

Baltimore, Md. (July 16, 2025) - Today, Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates announced several sentences secured this week by prosecutors in his Homicide Unit for gun offenses, second-degree murder, and first-degree murder.

“These cases reflect the devastating impact of gun violence and senseless acts of brutality in our communities, and these resulting sentences send a clear message to perpetrators of violence that neither residents nor our office will tolerate that behavior in Baltimore,” said State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates. “Our office remains steadfast in its mission to hold violent offenders accountable and deliver justice for victims and their families. I commend our prosecutors for their tireless efforts in securing these convictions and helping to make our neighborhoods safer for residents and visitors alike.”

Davonte Hamlett was sentenced to Life in prison plus 45 years for First-Degree Murder, Attempted Second-Degree Murder, and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Crime of Violence. The defendant fatally shot Sherman Anderson and non-fatally struck another victim in May 2024 outside of a Carroll Fuel on Reisterstown Road. Assistant State’s Attorney Elizabeth Stock prosecuted this case.

Aurielle Montgomery was sentenced to 40 years, suspending all but 22 years, with five years of supervised probation, as well as mental health screenings and substance abuse treatment. The defendant pleaded guilty to Second-Degree Murder for the death by blunt force trauma of her 18-month-old daughter in October 2022 at the 2700 block of Ellicott Drive. Special Victims Unit Chief Jesse Halvorsen and ASA Keera Gilbert prosecuted this case.

Everett Schwartz was sentenced to 39 years of incarceration for numerous gun charges relating to the fatal shooting of Tavaughn Anderson in January 2021 at the 1700 block of N. Chester Street. Assistant State’s Attorney Alyssa Ragland prosecuted this case.

Daquan Woodard was sentenced to two Life terms of incarceration plus 20 years for two counts of First-Degree Murder and related charges for the fatal shooting of Odell Curtis and Ricardo Brooks-Waters outside of a 7-Eleven on Bel Air Road in February 2024. Assistant State’s Attorney Amy Brown prosecuted this case.

The State’s Attorney’s homicide unit has secured 32 guilty outcomes for violent offenders in 2025.
